Summary[]
Breanna has to do community service for trying to steal a councilman’s watch. The old lady Breanna delivers food to, pickpockets her phone. The old lady, Stella, tells Sophie and Breanna that her guardian is selling off all of her things without her consent, but there’s nothing she can do as she’s under a conservatorship. Sophie then soon finds out that Stella was the famous criminal, the Jackal. Stella has Alzheimer’s, which is why she’s under a conservatorship, and she can’t remember where she put her power of attorney papers. All she remembers is that it’s with her greatest score. The team believes the papers are with the famous Turlington gun, which Stella stole back in the day. Sophie and Breanna get Stella to recount the story of why and how she came to live in New Orleans when she fell in love with a mark.
Back in the day, Stella was going to rob a stack of gold bars from a gangster’s safe. But not being good at safe cracking, she needed the combination, so she got a job working at the bar. Stella fell in love with the gangster’s wife, Jo. Stella and Jo ran off together to escape Jo’s husband, Earl. Stella didn’t end up stealing the gold but took the Turlington gun from Earl. Jo is revealed to be pregnant with Earl’s child and gives birth to a girl. Jo and Stella stay together, raising Jo’s daughter and becoming a family. Eventually, they got as close to being married as they could in those days and signed power of attorney papers. Earl finds them after. Jo ends up shooting Earl to save Stella, and Stella tells Jo to take her daughter and go. Stella hasn’t seen either since then.
Meanwhile, for the con, the team finds out that Phil, Stella’s appointed guardian, has the Turlington gun and swaps it out with a fake, calling the cops on him and the Judge he was working with. The papers aren’t in the gun case, unfortunately. Sophie realizes that Stella’s power of attorney papers are in the painting Jo made of Stella. Stella is then reunited with Jo and her daughter.
